Prince Super Bowl
Prince Super bowl Half Time Show
Following a reportedly unimpressive opening rendition of the "National Anthem" by Billy Joel, pop legend Prince gave an energizing performance at the February 4, 2006 Super Bowl XLI Halftime show. The show was performed at Dolphin Stadium in South Florida to a worldwide audience of roughly 1 billion people. The entertainer, famous for his spectacular live shows, arrived on a stage shaped like his abstract symbol sporting a tight blue suit and a black do-rag. He blew audiences away with performances of his hit songs, including "Let's Go Crazy," "Proud Mary," and "Purple Rain." During "Proud Mary," in an elaborateness truly Prince-worthy, a fully equipped marching band strutted up and down the field in sync to the song's tune. Magnificent lighting effects dominated the performance while Prince worked his finger magic on the guitar. The show was sponsored by Pepsi and produced by Don Mischer Productions and White Cherry Entertainment.

Prince Super Bowl Pictures
Most pictures of Prince during his Super Bowl XLI half time show performance show the surprisingly youthful-looking 48-year old pop star ripping away on his flamboyantly purple guitar, which is also shaped like his iconic abstract symbol. However, in somewhat controversial pictures aired by NBC on February 7, 2006, Prince is shown in silhouette behind a cream colored curtain performing a solo of his hit, "Purple Rain" during the Super Bowl XLI half time show. The shadow cast by the shape of his body and his guitar suggested phallic imagery to some viewers, which is up to debate but not out of character for the hyper sexual artist. Most fans, however, were unsurprised by the photos, attesting that the guitar has always held phallic connotations and that sexuality is part of the pop icon allure.
