Super Bowl Shuffle

Bears Super Bowl Shuffle

The Chicago Bears in 1985 did the Super Bowl shuffle all the way to a world championship. The idea was to take the number one ranked team from each division and pit them against each other for the claiming of the national championship title. In 1985 the Chicago Bears created the infamous Super Bowl shuffle. This was a dance spearheaded by Walter Payton and Jim McMahon as they danced their way into the radio stations as well as into the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl shuffle became a phenomenon that year in the months leading up to the Super Bowl, as the Bears and McMahon felt their 15-1 season would loft them straight into the world championship. The originally slated to be called The Big One, the Super Bowl was so named after the merger between the NFL and its rival the AFL took place and AFL founder Lamar Hunt jokingly referred to the event after seeing his child playing a toy known as a Super Ball. That ball is on display and the name, first put in place until a better title was decided upon, stuck and is now the most watched sports broadcast in the country today.

For most young men, the football season can last year round, with conditioning and weight lifting beginning just as soon as the last game of the regular season comes to a close. Football is widely regarded as a favorite pastime throughout America and media coverage on games of every variety is extensive. For many players, coaches and fans, football is not just a game; it is a way of life. The Super Bowl shuffle has created a new wave of music and football.

The Super Bowl Shuffle

No one knows for sure when or where the first Super Bowl shuffle was played, whether those first games were geared more toward what we now call soccer, or the who the first players were. But it’s pretty widely accepted that the first Super Bowl shuffle was played in October of that year during which the Bears were largely taking over the NFL. The Super Bowl shuffle hasn’t yet been equaled by any team or any sports music performance since.
