2007 Super Bowl Commercials
2007 Super Bowl Ads
Probably the most interesting thing about the commercials displayed during the 2007 Super Bowl was the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest. Amateur filmmakers from all across the nation filmed and submitted clever and witty commercials with the goal of making it to the prime time advertising slot. Directors simply had to submit a 30 second video advertising Doritos in a fun and thoughtful way and the public could view the contestants online and vote for their favorite. Five finalists got their ads placed on the air along with a special VIP viewing of the live event. This contest was highly publicized and many people contributed to the voting, making this competition a very successful first, and most likely, a leader in challenges to come.
2007 Super Bowl Ad Ratings
Unlike regular television shows, one cannot simply refer to the Nielsen ratings in order to find out how popular a certain commercial is. Aware of the need for this daunting task, USA Today got together 238 adults across the country to view each Super Bowl commercial and map their second-by-second reactions. Positively dominating the top ten, Budweiser and Bud Light held an impressive seven of the ten spots with runners up from Snickers, Doritos and FedEx. Amazingly, Anheuser-Busch spent roughly 10 million dollars on ads for its subsidiaries Budweiser, Bud Light and Bud Select. By far the top company for spending, it is certainly no wonder they secured the majority of the favorite spots.
